💬 Frequently Asked Questions
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a drug-free, non-invasive brain training therapy that helps your brain self-regulate by using real-time feedback. Sensors monitor brainwave activity and encourage more balanced patterns, helping improve focus, mood, sleep, and overall mental health.
How does Neurofeedback work?
During a Neurofeedback session, sensors are placed on your scalp to monitor your brainwaves. You’ll watch a movie or visual display, and when your brainwaves shift into a healthier state, you’re rewarded with clear audio and visuals. This feedback encourages the brain to rewire itself toward optimal performance.
What conditions can Neurofeedback help with?
Neurofeedback has shown results in supporting a wide range of concerns, including:
ADHD & focus challenges
Anxiety & depression
Memory loss & brain fog
Sleep disturbances & insomnia
PTSD & trauma
Concussions & brain injuries
Learning difficulties & dyslexia
Chronic stress & emotional overwhelm
Substance abuse recovery
Peak mental performance
Is Neurofeedback safe?
Yes. Neurofeedback is 100% non-invasive, drug-free, and safe for children, teens, and adults. It doesn’t involve adding anything to the brain—just guiding it to regulate more efficiently using its natural processes.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients benefit from 20 to 40 sessions, depending on their goals and brain map results. Since neuroplasticity is built through repetition, consistency is key. Sessions are typically done 2–3 times per week for best results.
What happens during a brain map (QEEG)?
The Quantitative EEG (QEEG), or brain map, is a 20-minute test where you wear a sensor cap while relaxed. The system reads your brain's electrical patterns and compares them to normative databases. This helps us identify areas of imbalance and build a personalized training protocol.
Is it covered by insurance?
Neurofeedback is not typically covered by insurance plans. However, HSA/FSA funds can usually be applied. We also offer flexible payment plans.
Is Neurofeedback backed by research?
Yes. Neurofeedback is grounded in decades of neuroscience and has been studied in clinical settings since the 1960s. It’s supported by organizations such as the International Society for Neuroregulation & Research (ISNR) and has growing peer-reviewed research backing its effectiveness.
Will I feel anything during a session?
No. Neurofeedback is completely painless. The sensors read your brainwave activity but don’t send any electrical stimulation to the brain. Most clients feel relaxed and often report a calm, focused feeling after sessions.
How soon will I see results?
Many clients begin noticing subtle improvements—such as better sleep, reduced anxiety, or increased focus—after just a few sessions. However, lasting changes usually become more noticeable after 8–10 sessions as your brain learns and stabilizes new patterns.
Can I combine Neurofeedback with other therapies?
Absolutely. Neurofeedback complements other healing modalities such as therapy, meditation, nutritional support, and holistic wellness treatments. At NeuroShift Wellness, we often combine services for more transformative results.
